Product Review - Mulligan Stew

Hello good pups and peeps of Blogville! Macy Blue here.

This month, we were asked to review Mulligan Stew Duck Recipe Canned Dog Food by the nice folks at We tried the duck variety.

Both Momma and I were thrilled they sent us a whole case! Those folks at Chewy are so kind and generous with us!!

Momma thought the color was a little bright... Whatever that means. I however, thought it was amazeballs delicious!!!!

Here's the ingredients: Duck,Water sufficient for processing, Cabbage, Liver (Beef, Chicken or Turkey to match protein source), Brown Rice, Horseradish, L-Methionine, L-Cysteine, Beta-Carotene, Selenium Yeast

Momma always gives me a tiny forkful whilst we're waiting for the micro to wave at the water for my vittels. I couldn't get enough!

Finally! My water was waved and my kibbles were mixed in with the yummers Mulligan Stew and supper was ready! 'cuse me!!

This stuff is SO good!!!  Momma's gonna talk a bit  cause it's she says it's not polite to review with my mouth all full!

Creekhiker / Macy's Momma here: As finances are always a concern for me, I was thinking the $34.99 / 12 price tag is a bit steep for my budget. I zipped over the Evanger's page on and compared to the duck and sweet potato I usually keep in Macy's canned food mix. It's only $19.29 / 12.  However, I noticed it had way more ingredients but then they all seem to be vitamins and supplements.... so, I'm more confused than ever.

As I do add better canned food to her mix (I rotate around 8 varieties into her food. It takes her four meals to eat a can, so she gets a change every 2 days.) when I am more financially flush. I would probably buy the Mulligan Stew as a treat from time to time.

But let's get back and see what Macy Blue thought. To me, this photo says it all!

That Mulligan Stew was souper!!! Bwhahahaha!!!

I give it four paws up and hefty tail wag too! Momma gives it one thumb up. Her other thumb is stuck in her wallet...

Hey Ma! You need to fix my bowl... It's empty!

Neither Creekhiker nor Macy Blue were compensated for this review. Mr Chewy sent one case of Mulligan Stew Duck Recipe Canned Dog Food for Macy Blue to devour... or not.

A Letter to My Dog

Dear Puppeh Blue....

I can never begin to fully express the joy you have brought back into my life!  I loved you from the moment I saw your sad eyes on the internet, the night before I met you.  I loved you even more when you reached out to me from your cell in doggie jail. And I loved you still more when you were so easy to train and showed such glee at our daily walks.

I know I've been a difficult momma for you. You clearly don't know what to make of me: I'm loud, I chase you, I throw myself on the floor and roll at your feet. I never punish you for being on the sofa I bought for doggie cuddles... that seems to blow your mind daily! But I'm learning... too much petting scares you. I try to get up and get away before you do but I'm old and my body hurts. I'm just not as fast as you. And I'm so sorry. I wish petting and loving and cuddling didn't scare you so.  I've heard some dogs can take years to figure that one out... And that's fine. I'm not going anywhere. And neither are you.

I know the concept of forever home is not something you get....having lived three years of your life somewhere before finding yourself in doggie jail. Then adopted and returned within three days several different times. Let me just tell you softly (cause loud will scare you) and clearly... those people were idiots!!! I've had a number of special and amazing dogs... I like to think I have a knack for finding special and amazing dogs... And without diminishing the love I feel for those girls, I can honestly say, you top the list!!! I've never met a sweeter, more agreeable, eager to please pup than you Macy Blue.

And I have complete faith that one day, I'm going to look into those sweet brown eyes of yours and they won't be blue any more!

Love you always, Your crazy, forEVER Mom

Him Again

As I popped into the office of the high school to sign out today, I ran into this guy again. Remember how wonderful he was to me the day after Mabel Lou passed???

I learned his name is Harrison and he is always in the high school office on Friday afternoons. (Note to self: Get more high school gigs on Fridays!) He is there for anyone in need of doggy comfort, cuddles or a good game of tug!  He is going to be associated with Pet Partners when he finishes his training. His human sibs go to the high school... that's how we are lucky enough to get him!

I took total advantage of a dog that hugs and plays and had a great time loving him up!

I also stopped off to see Barticus Farticus on the way home... so I was given a thorough sniff and the stink eye by Macy Blue!

The First Cuddle of the New Year

I've been "out of the nook" with Macy since Granny left. Her affections for me have regressed to when I brought her home. No kisses, no cuddles. Creekhiker is NOT a happy momma! She's no longer sleeping in her bed at the foot of her sofa. No, she now favors the one across the room from me.

Macy has shown some favoritism for Mom's chair. She's never sat there before, but I frequently find her in it now. It dawned on me that this all started when Mom left. Since I brought Granny home in the car and then took her away in the car... Does Macy assume that will happen to her???

I've been trying to be patient, thinking this too shall pass. But I'm a lonely girl... I get more hugs from my dog than I do from people... I'm fine with that - as long as said dog is affectionate!

Then out of the blue yesterday morning, she decided I was O.K. again and justlikethat, I was back in the nook! I got a cuddle and kisses and she was all lovey dovey!

She still has her weird things... She can't be petted too vigorously. She can't feel "cornered" while being petted. She doesn't do close very well.

Today, I was on the floor, next to her sofa. I had found her napping there and took the opportunity to love her up a bit. Petting her softly, cooing to her about how pretty and sweet I thought she was, sent her out the back door in a matter of seconds!

And I saw myself in my dog. I don't do compliments. I'm certain the person must be mistaken. And while my self esteem issues are a whole 'nother Oprah, I remembered that phrase, "You don't get the dog you want. You get the one you need."

I guess we both have a lot to learn.

Waiting on Granny

Hello good pups and peeps of Blogville! Macy Blue here!

I liked meeting my Granny. She petted me a little scary a few times and sent me running for my bed...I just don't trust peeps not to hurt me... But we worked it out. I know she loves me cause she was so generous with the vittels and the coffee. Even though I had to wait sometimes...

It's pretty nice having a Granny!

Just to Help You Out

Hello Good Pups and Peeps of Blogville! Macy Blue here. Momma posted a quiz on the bloggie and then left. She leaves me all alone most of the day and says she spends the day with mean children. I don't know why she does that... especially when I'm so sweet!

Anyway, here's that pic again with a big clue!! Heh heh!

I'm trying to get Momma to look at blogs at night on the eye pad... but some nights she's kinda tired.

Her Final Walk

I took both my girls for a walk yesterday.

It occurred to me that we may not have any more rain.  At Mabel's actual funeral, her hidey hole swimming spot was dry. So was the waterfalls. While we have some water, I had to get my girl out there. I wanted her to be in her favorite spots in the creek...and it was just time.

And Macy Blue loves being at the creek as much as her big sister! Having her along for the walk made this task much less sad.

We placed a pinch of Mabel in the hidey hole spot. I leaned in for a shot downstream. You can see why she loved it so.

Then we went down to the waterfall swimming spot and dropped a generous handful there.

I stood in the spot where all the dogs would shake to dry off and tell their humans how happy they were, and I dug a hole with the heel of my shoe and buried a bit of her there. I can't think of a single soul who was ever unhappy in that spot. Mabel never was...

I went around to my favorite sitting rock. It's deep water in the front but you can climb on from dry land in the back. You've seen many photos from this spot. I've watched many  happy dogs swim from this spot.

Dropped a pinch of her there too, in the shallow waters on the back of the rock. Mabel used to stand on her hind legs and check on me there.

The water music is especially nice in this spot. It's no wonder we both loved it so.

I placed a few pinches in the spot that connects the Darkside with the same old place (We call it "the sop") . Mabel was always fascinated by the fact that her two favorite hikes somehow met in the middle. She loved it when we could run into friends who were having a completely different hike and yet they could all swim together.

She would often wander up the hill on the opposite shore just to see if any friends were coming along.

Next, we went to Dirty Creek, Mabel's favorite spot as a pup. This place had water during the funeral but it would've made the hike too strenuous for the older members of our pack. I placed some of her under the leaning tree. When she was a pup and I could barely walk, I would sit on a rock nearby and just let her roam around here for hours. When I was in a wheelchair and couldn't walk at all, I would park nearby and let her out of the car. She would return half an hour later, wet and happy.

What was left was dumped further downstream, under the mulberry trees. Mabel would lie down here and just take it all in.

She was my dreamer, my vista seeker, my wanderer, my love and my friend. She's in all of her favorite places now. But she's always in my heart.
