Trump Got It WRONG!

It big news here in Cali that Donald Trump, owner of the Miss USA pageant, has ruled that the bigot we call Miss California will keep her title in spite of not revealing nude photos to the pageant and spending her time working against gay marriage.

Ms. Prejean, the bigot in question, states, "I exercised my freedom of speech and I was punished for doing so."

Well, honey, your freedom of speech shows you to be an idiot and a bigot!

And really, if she stood up there and stated that African Americans or Asians deserved to not be treated equally, would she still have that crown, Mr Trump? I think not.

When you isolate one group of people and treat them differently, that's not right. And it seems gay people are the last frontier of bigotry in this country. Enough is enough.

I thought you were talking about Celebrity Apprentice! I was pulling for Joan. Curt comes home on Thursday! Miss you!

I think she has the right to her opinion, the way the rest of us have a right to our opinion. Plus, she's what, 22? she hasn't been around long enough to understand human differences. Plus, if she's a "Christian", she's toeing the party line.

It's not worth getting worked up over-it's not as if this blonde bunny is going to be touring the world spouting her opinions and allowing people to think that everyone in California or the US thinks the way she does.

Who outside of one's home state (and even then I doubt that's very many) knows who their Miss (Your State) is? Unless that Miss is embroiled in a scandal, that is. I doubt very much that in the future people will remember this.

Janet, I'm sort of shocked. Substitute "black" for "gay" and see if you feel the same way.

I have so many gay friends having worked in Hollyweird for so long. What our state is doing to them politically is a travesty! It has long term impact on FAMILIES. IT IS A HUGE DEAL.

Right this minute, I have a former boss who, along with her wife - they were married here when it was legal - are attending the birth of their adopted son. If the courts agree with the voters, that could mean that one of them is no longer consider that child's parent. How is that NOT a big deal??

In what sense is being gay identical to being a member of another race?

I'm talking about the right of people to have their opinions, and that woman wouldn't get five minutes of air time or a quarter inch of column space if she had been asked about saving the whales or something else. My point is, she isn't important. I doubt that too many people will see her as a role model. Now, if she were an established personality whose statements command attention, and she had some influence, that would be different. As it is, she's just an attractive young woman in a beauty pageant. I don't see this as important, I think this is a case of the media creating news instead of reporting it.

I guess the whole issue of gay marriage really just chaps my hide. It's not fair to separate them from the rest of us.

But as Trump pointed out, our own president is a bigot in this area.

And yesterday, Sarah Palin, came out in support of the nitwit Prejean and against gay marriage.

Who would have thought Palin = Obama???

I'm so ashamed of our country...

Snowbrush,

In the sense that they are a very large group of people that we can single out and treat them differently than the rest of us.

I hold no religious beliefs in this area, and I can well imagine that two mature gay people who have known one another for a long time are better marriage candidates than are two childish heterosexuals who have just met. Even so, this is an issue about which I am ambivalent, although I lean toward favoring gay marriage. You, however, seem to think that anyone who doesn't agree with you completely is nothing more than a bigoted nut who hates gay people. Instead of trying to look at it from any side but your own, you resort to insults. Even if you are right in favoring gay people, you don't reach people by attacking them, you alienate them. You contribute toward that which you say you hate, namely dividing the world into opposing camps.

Snowbrush, I guess I'm no different than the liberals who hated Pres. GW Bush with such venom and anger.

I do feel very passionately about this and I'm amazed the many are so narrow minded as to think that by allowing gay marriage, it somehow diminishes their own relationship.

I live in California where the propaganda runs rampant, fueled by the Mormom church and other right wing groups. Funny thing is, I'm more right wing than left....but not on this issue.

During our last election, the terrified straight voters into thinking all school kids would be attending gay weddings!

Anyway, you are a bit late to the party here...maybe if you read some of my older posts you would understand where my firsthand pain and anger comes from....

I read your two links. Thank you. As I said, I'm ambivalent. If I were to vote, I would almost certainly vote for gay marriage. To people who object that it would harm marriage as an institution, I would ask them how much worse could gay people trash marriage than society as a whole has already done? I mean, you can vow "till death do us part" a dozen times with a dozen different people, and you can dump them all with little trouble for little reason. That society allows such things implies that society doesn't respect marriage.

My difficulty lies in the fact that gayness (in man esp) seems to have a genetic link that I would consider a genetic abnormality. The question is whether this should matter. Whether it's "normal" or not, it's no less real, and people's lives are no less affected.

I follow a blog of someone who is on the opposite side of the fence. I'll give it for whatever it's worth. (http://justanotherlostcause.blogspot.com/2009/04/bigotry-and-gay-marriage.html).
