What Planet Have I Been On???

I think I'm still recovering from my illness... I slept most the day away. And when I woke, I was jonesing for a hamburger - my first in over a month. Maybe that's a sign I'm getting better.

I don't go for those well known burger joints. Instead I favor California grown chains... either In-N-Out or Tommy's. With gas prices being what they are, I opted for the closer to home Tommy's.

On the way up the mountain, I suddenly wanted a Coke. I gave up carbonated beverages several years ago and can honestly say I don't consume more than 10 in a year... and that's probably stretching it a bit.

Knowing I did not want a watered down fountain drink, I popped into the grocery store. They only had 20 ounce bottles in the cold cases up front. As I approached the case, I just about had a heart attack... A BUCK FIFTY??? FOR A COKE??? When did they get so pricey??? I know, I know... the price of everything is up. But a buck fifty for a nickel's worth of caramel in soda water???

Not wanting to pay that, I implored of the cashier..."Don't you have cans somewhere?" They didn't.

I stood in front of the case in a stunned stupor and finally, realizing I can't fight City Hall, I grabbed a Coke and got in line.

I think was still in shock when I got home with my burger. It was good. So was the Coke... but not a buck fifty good. Thank goodness I don't drink this crap that often! I'd be broke for sure.

Yep, I read in the paper a few days ago where Coke was going to raise its prices, but I don't think it would be right away-next year, I think. People will keep buying it, figuring it's cheaper than Starbucks.

Hmm...craving a hamburger then craving a Coke? are you pregnant?

If I had been drinking that coke, I would have spewed it for sure Miss Janet!

Pregnant??? Not unless those weird spirits that want to have sex with you in your sleep have been visiting. Do you really think Mabel would allow anyone in my bed??? LOL!

Hey! Now we'll have to go to Tommy's next time we're in LA. Is it as good as In N Out? I still remember all the delicious restaurants you took us too in the past. Yummy! Canned drinks here come half the size and skinny cans. I lost 10 lbs. just because of that. I'm trying to cut it out completely but when we eat the spicy Korean food, it really cuts the burn in my mouth. I'm working on it though!

Becky, In-N-OUt is more flavorful... You know they don't have a freezer on their premises, right? So that's why it tastes so good there.

Tommy's is famous for their chili. They put it on the burgers with mustard and pickles... Oooh, it's good. But for overall best burger...it's still In-n-out.

Sharkee's is high on my list to take you next. I don't think Curt ever got to try shrimp tacos and theirs are so awesome and now they have one right by the Burbank airport!

I was talking to my sister in Baton Rouge and found out she had the same kind of shock when she found out Cokes were 1.25 this week!

As someone who's old enough to remember nickel Cokes, these over-a-dollar prices are shocking to me. I'm a long-time Diet Coke addict, so it may be soft drinks that finally break my budget, not gas.

I'm used to sitting at home; now I'm gonna have to sit home thirsty.

OK, Velvet and Janet... with the price of beverages being what they are, please give me a heads up that I'm about to spray my keyboard.

You both are a hoot!

Velvet, after talking to my sister, I suddenly got a mental image of her asking for a case of diet coke for Christmas!
