Not Warning Enough

Our hiking buddy, Chloe the Dobie's dad is a smoker. He got some European cigarettes and was amazed at the stern warnings that cover the majority of the packaging:

And my favorite (because I'm actually allergic to smoke):

I truly hate being around smoke... my eyes start to water and my throat is suddenly very sore after breathing in someone else's smoke. But I wonder if these are aggressive warnings are enough to make someone stop. I wish everyone could see someone like my sister ( a former 26 year smoker), struggling for every breath that goes into her body... but nicotine is a strong and powerful drug and I know the tobacco lobby in this country is also strong and powerful.  I wonder, are they investing in tobacco's future??? Are they looking for other better uses for the crap for when they've killed off everyone?

Sorry for the Debby Downer post today... I guess I'm in the angry stage of grief. Now, maybe you understand why it's easier to talk about ducks. Ducks make me happy and I need a whole lot of happy right now!

My mother died from cigarettes, and my impulse afterwards was to invest in tobacco stocks because, after all, if people are stupid enough to smoke, why shouldn't I profit from it? I didn't really buy tobacco stocks, but the impulse is still there. I see young people smoking, and I just think, you dumb piece of shit; you're going to be cured of imagining yourself invincible.

I'm afraid my thoughts are not so benevolent, Snow. I silently wish them to drop dead so I don't have to breathe their stench any longer....
Not proud of it...but it's the way I feel.

My father and brother were both very heavy smokers. My father died of a heart attack at 55, my brother of cancer at 27. I am sure cigarettes had a lot to do with their early deaths. Never smoked, never will.

So sorry for you and your sister. Hugs.

Dropping dead works for me. I don't guess you have to be a jerk to smoke, but the two do go well together.

First, the new header is absolutely wonderful. We love it. Secondly, my mother died at 60 - lung cancer. I haven't smoked for almost 20 years. Proud of it. It was a long struggle to stop. Sending hugs and rotten kisses...

The worst is when you see a pregnant woman smoking. I have seen a few lately and it just made me so sad.

Your header looks GREAT!!

LOVE love love your new header pix mix :)

I'm allergic to smoke also. My powerful nose can pick up the scent of it anytime/anywhere. I'm so sorry to hear what your sister is going through and what you are having to endure seeing her go through it.

Cancer sucks! I hate it with every fiber of my being.

BIG hugs to you!

Lots of Luv & Kisses

Beautiful header! Rottie head is always gorgeous!

Really hope it can be a smoke free world one day but we all know that it's an impossible dream. There are too many people out there thinking that smoking is cool and those who don't smoke are SOFT. I don't know what to call those smokers, stupid or naive?

Well, most people start smoking when they're young and feeling invincible, and I hear that it's a bear to give it up, so I'm sorry for them. Yet, I still think they should be shot dead if seen smoking in public. I wonder if those of us who have lost relatives to cigarettes don't tend to hold more anger toward people who smoke than those who haven't. I just know I have to make an effort to remind myself that they're human beings and not some mutant that crawled out of sewer.

Smoking is such an awful thing. So glad I never started. The cost along is enough to make me sick to my stomach, $10 a pack where we live.
