Chewy Review: Blue Buffalo Wilderness Wild Rolls Beef Recipe

Hello good pups and peeps of Facebook er... BlogVILLE!  Long time, eh? Good help is so hard to find! Sigh!
But I did get my assistant / Momma to the keyboard in the knick of time for my Chewy Review! Thank goodness!

So what did Chewy.com send for review this month Mom???

They sent you a chub of Blue Buffalo Wilderness Wild Rolls Beef Recipe.

Gee Momma, beef sounds good and I like buffalo - not sure it's supposed to be BLUE... but...whatsa CHUB???

It's a convenient way to package moist meat products... You're gonna like this Macy Blue. Here:

OOOOOhhhh! That IS good Momma!!! I think I need another...You know, to be totally objective!

All right Macy Blue! You don't have to give me the sassy eyes!

Momma, a girl's gotta do what she can to get a nibble around here! Why don't you let me hoover the ground for a bit and tell the nice peeps what's in this chub of wonderful??

O.K. M.B., Here 's what Chewy says about the Blue Buffalo Wilderness Wild Rolls:

Product Description

Blue Buffalo Wilderness feeds your dog’s ancestral wolf-like spirit and his love of meat with Wild Rolls Beef Recipe Grain-Free Dog Food Roll. This soft-moist roll is grain-free and naturally preserved to deliver the smoky flavor of delicious beef in every bite. Wild Rolls make it easy to satisfy your dog’s primal instincts with a versatile food that can be served as a kibble topper or on its own as a fully balanced meal or flavorful treat.
Key Benefits

  • Grain-free beef food roll
  • Made with all-natural ingredients
  • Serve as a full meal, topper or treat
  • Suitable for adult dogs
  • No artificial preservatives, colors or flavors
  • No corn, wheat, soy or chicken/poultry by-product meals

Ingredients

Beef, chicken, pea flour, cane molasses, dried egg, beef broth, sugar, vegetable glycerin, potato starch, pea fiber, natural flavor, lactic acid, sodium lactate, salt, dried cultured whey product, sodium phosphate, potassium chloride, celery powder, choline chloride, ferrous sulfate, vitamin e supplement, mixed tocopherols, zinc oxide, vitamin A supplement, copper amino acid complex, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), manganese sulfate, niacin (vitamin B3), calcium pantothenate (vitamin B5), sodium selenite, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin (vitamin B2), pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), potassium iodide, biotin, folic acid, oil of rosemary

Here's the Momma's take on it: While the product is soft when you first open it, it's pretty hard when stored in the fridge, as recommeded.  One of the reviews on the Chewy site says it's "spreadable." Ours was not, even before we put it in fridge. I tell you all of this because this old lady has two bad shoulders and two bad elbows... It was hard to mix into "Macy Blue Stew" - My own mix of wet food and kibble and warm water or broth. I found it easier to shave bits off with a knife.

Additionally, it smelled "salty" and while they don't measure salt content in dog food, the sodium phosphate and potassium chloride are both pretty high on the list of ingredients. Likely a preservative but when it's the primary thing you smell, it seems excessive.

On the plus side, it has a handy ruler on the package for feeding the right proportion of food.

And finally, I'm always concerned about price. The non-sale price at the time of this writing comes to .47 / ounce. And this is on the 2.25 # roll. It's also available in a one # roll and costs considerably more per ounce. Compare that with one of the more expensive Blue Buffalo canned foods which comes in at .23 / ounce. And one of my more pricey current brands comes in at .13 / ounce.

Because of my concerns about the salty smell and the price, this momma wouldn't purchase it.

There goes Princess Pocketbook again! Momma, I think the Blue Buffalo Wild Rolls Beef Recipe is sooooo tasty!!

Macy Blue sez: It's Yummy!  I give Blue Buffalo Wilderness Wild Rolls Beef Recipe four paws up!

So if you have a momma who has looser purse strings...maybe you pups can get some!  Geesh! I guess I got adopted by Dollar Queen!

Neither Creekhiker nor Macy Blue were compensated for this review. Chewy.com gave Macy Blue one case of  Blue Buffalo Wilderness Wild Rolls Beef Recipe  to devour...or not.

That does look tasty. At least you get to enjoy that one roll of food. Maybe if it goes on sale some day your momma will buy you some more.
